Workshop on Research Funding in Engineering – Opportunities & Challenges

A workshop was conducted on 16th October 2018 in a theme “Research Funding in Engineering – Opportunities & Challenges” at Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) Noida campus which saw a participation of over 100 faculty and PhD scholars across Delhi NCR & UP. The event started with a video message of the Honorable VC, AKTU for the participants where he mentioned that research and innovation is one of the area of his focus. The workshop was moderated by Prof. M K Dutta (Dean – R & D and Industrial Consultancy,AKTU) and the distinguished panelists included – Shri. R Saha (Senior Adviser CII), Dr. Anita Aggarwal (Scientist, DST), Dr. J L Raheja (Scientist, CSIR-CEERI), Dr. S K Pandey (Scientist,DRDO) along with Prof. Vineet Kansal (Dean UG, AKTU) and Prof. Virendra Pathak (Director, UPID Noida).
The main objective of this workshop was to sensitize participants about the contemporary research areas of national interest and making them aware about Funding opportunities available for research. It was discussed and deliberated in the session that all research efforts should either generate money or should benefit the society. The key highlights of the workshop included- discussions on novelty and power of ideas and how such ideas can be funded by various funding agencies. The panellist also had made a good deliberation on IPR and filing of patents. The Dean R&D and Industrial consultancy, AKTU briefed the participants about the various research funding schemes University has started i.e. Visweswariya research promotion scheme, conference scheme and travel grants to the researchers of the university. The workshop session was well absorbed by the participants and concluded on the importance of 3 P’s in research – Patent, Publications and Projects.
